There was once a little girl, nearly seven, who loved fairy tales and stories. She had an older sister who wasn’t always nice but at times read to her from an old children’s book. The little girl eagerly listened to many tales of kids in peril and witches with evil intent.

One day, the older sister read “Sleeping Beauty” to the little girl. When it was over, she told the little girl “You must NEVER poke yourself with a needle. If you do, you will die!”

And so, the little girl believed the older sister but took no mind. She went to her room to finish her sewing project, humming softly. Suddenly, the needle slipped and the little girl had poked her finger! Oh, how scared she was!

Her heart pounded with fear. Her hands shook with worry. The little girl waited all day to die. She paced in her room, and walked cautiously around the house. She went to bed, certain she would not wake up. But she did! And when she told her older sister what happened, the older sister laughed with cruelty.

Then the older sister asked the little girl if she wanted to hear the story “Hansel and Gretel.”

(this is a mostly true story, with very little exaggeration)
